A private transfer from Tirana Airport (TIA) to Ohrid costs a fixed 9,200 den (~€150) per vehicle and takes about 2 hours 45 minutes for the 135 km, including the Albanian–Macedonian border crossing at Qafë Thanë.
Tirana has a wide route network from Western Europe, and the drive to the lake is shorter than from Skopje. Your driver meets you inside arrivals, tracks the flight at no cost, and knows the crossing and plans the timing around it.
How much is a taxi from Tirana Airport to Ohrid?
The fare is agreed before you fly and does not change afterwards. Luggage, tolls, road taxes and waiting for a delayed flight are all included, and you pay the driver at the end of the ride.
- Tirana Airport → Ohrid
- 9,200 den (~€150) per vehicle, up to 4 passengers
- Night pickup
- Pickups between 23:00 and 06:00 add 100 den to the published fare
- Payment
- Cash to the driver in denars or euros. Cross-border transfers can be quoted in EUR. Confirm the currency when you book
The price is for the whole car, not per seat, so four people travelling together pay it once.
Crossing the border: what to bring and how long it takes
The route leaves Tirana on the SH3 towards Elbasan and Pogradec, follows the Albanian shore of Lake Ohrid, and crosses into North Macedonia at Qafë Thanë, north of Struga. It is the most scenic of our long transfers.
Everyone in the car needs the travel documents their nationality requires. Passengers are responsible for checking current passport, ID and visa requirements with the official authorities before travel. The crossing is usually quick, but queues build at peak summer weekends, so we quote the journey with time in hand rather than promising the best case.
- Have passports or ID cards ready: the driver cannot cross on your behalf.
- Check your own requirements with the IATA Travel Centre or the destination country’s official border authority.
- Rental agreements often restrict cross-border travel, so check yours; a booked transfer avoids that question entirely.
- There is no extra charge if the border queue runs long: the fare is fixed.
How long is the drive from Tirana to Ohrid?
Around 2 hours 45 minutes door to door for 135 km, allowing for the crossing. The Albanian side is mountain road with real corners; the Macedonian side runs flat along the lake through Struga into Ohrid.
Returning for a departing flight from Tirana, leave Ohrid roughly 5 hours before take-off. That covers the drive, the border and check-in without rushing.

Tirana or Skopje: which airport should you fly into?
Tirana usually wins on flight choice and ticket price from Western Europe, and the drive is shorter: 135 km against 180 km from Skopje. The trade-off is the border crossing and the mountain section, which makes the journey feel longer than the distance suggests.
Skopje is the simpler journey (no border, mostly motorway) and slightly cheaper at 9,000 den. If your flight times and fares are similar, Skopje is the easier ride; if Tirana saves you a connection or a large amount on the ticket, the transfer is straightforward and we run it year round.
Flying into Ohrid Airport itself is simplest of all when the schedule suits you: it is 10 km from town and 1,200 den. See all our airport routes.
Where we drop you off around Lake Ohrid
The fare above covers Ohrid town and the lakeside hotel strip. Struga sits directly on the route from the border and can often be reached sooner; the Old Town on the hill and the villages south of Ohrid are priced separately.
Enter your hotel, apartment or street in the booking form and the correct fare appears before you confirm. Add a map pin or a note if the address is hard to find.
